Do Your Bit
for the Planet - Create a Water-Efficient Bathroom
We
are now using 55% more water now than we were 25 years ago thanks to a myriad
of lifestyle changes; this has serious consequences for our planet and its
natural resources. Reducing water
wastage around the home is of prime importance particulary in the bathroom
where significant water savings can be made. Ideal Standard, the leading provider of bathroom products,
takes issues about eco-friendliness very seriously and has put together some
top tips on how our bathrooms can be made water efficient.
Stop Dripping Taps
Leaking
taps on baths and basins can be a perennial problem for homeowner. Easy to ignore, a dripping tap wastes
up to 4 litres of water per day therefore countless litres over time. Eliminating irritating and wasteful
dripping is possible thanks to ceramic disc Ceramic Disc technology incorporates a a multi-port cartridge which is a unique
feature for easy temperature control.
A single lever controls the pressure and
temperature within a unique comfort zone, between 30-45°C. This gives more sensitive control and provides smooth effortless handle operation even at high pressures.
taps, which use a very hard ceramic
material in the valve giving precise control and reducing dripping. Ideal Standard's Ceramix Alto, Ceraplan
and Moments tap collections all include this latest ceramic
disc technology.
Control Water Flow
When
it comes to taps, there are water saving models that can help reduce the amount
of water used in the bathroom, this is kinder to the environment and will save money
too. Ideal Standard's newest
Melange range of taps benefits from ‘clickCLICK technology.
The single lever basin mixer and bidet mixer
incorporate a CLICK feature that encourages
water saving – the user lifts the handle until they
feel a slight resistance. This resistance informs the
user that the fitting is delivering only 50% of its
maximum flow potential. Lifting the handle
further enables the fitting to deliver maximum
flow. CLICK technology is available on Idyll Two,
Ceramix, Ceraplan and Melange.' cartridge technology. This can limit flow to 50% if it is
stopped before the clickCLICK technology.

Stop Flushing Away the Pennies
The
WC is one of the biggest water users in the home, so it is important not to use
the WC as a bin by throwing items down the toilet and wasting valuable
water. The New dual flush
technology - with a small button using four litres and a larger button using
six litres - can save up to 25% of the water used against a standard six litre
cistern, and saves both the environment and running costs. This water saving device is fitted on
all Ideal Standard and Armitage Shanks push button close coupled Wash down toilet bowls are supplied with cisterns to form close coupled suites. The cistern is bolted to the rear platform of the toilet bowl to make a compact unit of low overall heightWCs.
Eco-friendly Bathing

of the water we use is accClick and Clean. The lower wheels and panels can be released to expose the for thorough cleaning. Panel then easily clicks back into position to ensure a water tight seal.ounted for when showering or bathing. Having a bath the eco-friendly way is
possible thanks to Ideal Standard's Alto eco-bath. Instead of the usual 195 litres and means a saving of 15% of
water compared to a conventional bath. Less conventional ways of saving water include using residual bath water
for watering the garden and may well keep the vegetable patch going in the
height of a summer drought.
Showers
Saving
water in the bathroom is best done by taking a shower rather than a bath - the
average seven minute shower complete with water restrictor can save between 40
and 80 litres of water compared to having a bath. Ideal Standard's top-of-the-range Moonshadow shower head is
a functional yet stylish addition to any water efficient bathroom (pictured
right). Alternatively, if space is
limited a shower bath gives you the choice of showering or bathing.
Shower
water usage is dependent on the length of time in the shower and the volume of
water delivered per minute, this is determined by water pressure. If looking to install a shower,
consider buying one of the Trevi valve models such as Trevi Therm, Trevi Flight
or Trevi Ascari with their built in ceramic disc Ceramic Disc technology incorporates a a multi-port cartridge which is a unique
feature for easy temperature control.

cartridge technology - developed
by Ideal Standard, this is the modern way to control water flow, and is not
