A Good Soak

08-Jun-2009

Most people love to have a good soak – it's one of life's great pleasures – but how many times have you run a lovely deep bath, only to get in and cascade water all over the floor. A bath need only be 2/3 full to be completely full once you're in it! Another scenario: you're running the bath, the door goes, the baby cries or the television catches your attention. Next thing you see is water flowing under the bathroom door. Oops! You've a flooded bathroom, probably not for the first time. Both these common problems can be solved, and waste avoided, with a low-capacity bath.

Low Capacity Baths

Most baths will hold between 175 and 200 litres of water to the overflow. With Ideal Standard's unique water-saving Sandringham and Alto baths the capacity is 149 litres, achieving a significant water saving of 15–28%. This is particularly helpful in busy families, where lots of baths can mean vast water usage. It's safer for young children too.

Shower Baths

An excellent space- and water-saving option, shower baths are significantly wider at one end – 90cm instead of the standard bath width of 70cm – allowing a comfortable standing shower with lots of elbow room. With a dedicated hinged glass shower screen, they offer all the luxury of a stand-alone shower but more flexible bathing options: you can choose between a water-saving shower or a low-capacity bath.

Showering

On average showering uses 30% less water than bathing, although some showers may be more wasteful, delivering anything from 10 to more than 30 litres per minute. Since it's possible to have a perfectly invigorating shower with a maximum of 9 litres of water, you might consider installing a shower restrictor that fits between the shower valve and the shower hose set. With this restrictor a typical 7-minute shower can save between 40 and 80 litres of water compared to having a bath. (Note that you need a minimum pressure of 0.3 bar to achieve 9 litres per minute.) Alternatively, a handy Ecobutton on your showerhead can be used to reduce or increase the water flow accClick and Clean. The lower wheels and panels can be released to expose the for thorough cleaning. Panel then easily clicks back into position to ensure a water tight seal.ording to need.
