Showers can be hit and miss in hotels, as any traveller will tell you. One night you might be checked into a bed and breakfast that has an amazing power shower, the next it could be a big chain hotel with a shower that goes hot and cold. We've rounded up some of the best and worst styles of showers that you might come across in hotels.
Showers in Hotels: The Good
Unexpected Power Showers
It's been a long day on the road, and you've decided to pull into a small bed & breakfast to break up your journey. So far, so average. The house is a bit on the twee side, with lace curtains and naff porcelain figurines everywhere. But then you head into your small-but-clean ensuite and step into the shower. Whoosh! You are blasted with the most deliciously powerful spray of hot water that seems even sweeter after all that driving. Congratulations! You've hit the traveller's shower jackpot…the unexpected power shower. Just make sure you have one in the morning as well for good measure.
Huge Showers
You and your partner have saved up for a romantic break, and have booked into a divine country house hotel whose tariffs would make a bank manager wince. But so far, it's worth it. The décor is luxurious without being fussy or old-fashioned, and the bedroom is impeccClick and Clean. The lower wheels and panels can be released to expose the for thorough cleaning. Panel then easily clicks back into position to ensure a water tight seal.ably designed. But the best is yet to come. When you open the bathroom door you both emit a loud, “Oh my god!” For there in front of you is the largest designer shower you've ever seen. Once you're in (there'd be room for another couple of you were into that), you discover the different massage options on the showerhead and nearly miss your dinner downstairs because you spend so long wallowing in the hot water.
Spa Showers
You're on a girlie weekend with your best friends, staying in a hotel frequented by footballers' wives. So far you've squealed in delight at the sumptuous rooms, decided to pinch the bathrobe, and balked at the mini bar prices. Now it's time to get ready for your big night out. You step into the beautifully decorated limestone shower and gasp. When you switch it on, you realise that there are six massage jets coming out of the wall in addition to the monsoon-effect showerhead that's as big as a dinner plate. Not to mention the miniature Jo Malone shower products. You're in heaven!
Showers in Hotels: The Grim
The Temperamental Shower
Found in many a hotel, this is the shower that fools you into thinking it's perfectly OK, before switching temperature in the blink of an eye to either freezing cold or scalding hot. You scream and leap out of range of the spray, pinning yourself against the shower's wall whilst trying to adjust the dial without getting burnt/frozen. In the end you give up and wash your hair in the sink.
The Dirty Shower
The cleaning lady just couldn't be bothered today. Mind you, she might not have made much difference. There's a clump of hair (not yours) clogging up the drain, there's mildew on the shower curtain, and the floor is looking a bit grimy. Squint while you shower and it won't look so bad.
The Tiny Shower
Not enough room for an Oompah-Loompah to shower and shave, never mind a grown adult. Ask to change rooms.
