Clean Bathrooms Tip 1: Mirrors

Add 1/3 cup clear vinegar and ¼ cup rubbing alcohol to a spray bottle and shake to mix. Spray sparingly onto mirrors and windows and wipe with a soft cloth until sparkling and clear. If you need extra cleaning power, add 1 tablespoon of dishwashing detergent.

Clean Bathrooms Tip 2: Showers

Those unsightly spots on your glass doors and shower walls are caused by alkaline deposits in the water, and need special treatment. Reapply car wax to the walls and doors twice a year to seal the porous surfaces and keep water spts at bay. Wipe down your shower after each use to prevent build-up. If the soap scum is getting your down, switch to a liquid or natural soap which will reduce this problem. Clean your bathroom's showers once a week with a citrus-based cleaner, leaving it on for ten minutes to dissolve the dirt before wiping.

Clean Bathrooms Tip 3: Shower Curtains

Machine wash your plastic shower curtains before they get too grimy. Take them down, spray with diluted citrus-based cleaner, and wait ten minutes. Put in the washing machine with rags and tea towels, and they will some out as good as new. If the curtain is long enough, trim off the seam at the bottom, as this is where mildew builds up.

Clean Bathrooms Tip 4: Toilets

Pour one or two cups of white vinegar into the toilet once a month to eliminate the rings caused by alkaline deposits. If they persist, turn off the water flow to the toilet, flush to remove the water, then place paper towels dampened with citrus cleaner or white vinegar around the edges, and leave overnight. Scrub with a stiff nylon brush until the deposits disappear.

Clean Bathrooms Tip 5: Sinks

Pour one cup of baking soda, followed by one cup of white vinegar down the drain. Wait an hour then flush with warm water. Do this once a month to dissolve the build-up. This method works well for your bathroom's shower, tub and kitchen sink drains also.

Clean Bathrooms Tip 6: Faucets

Place a paper towel soaked in vinegar around the faucet. Put the plug in the sink and pour ½ cup white vinegar into it. The vinegar needs a bit of time to dissolve the alkaline deposits, so when its had some time, scrub with a stiff-bristled nylon toothbrush. Don't use citrus-based or powdered cleansers on brass or gold-plated faucets as these corrode and scratch quickly.

Clean Bathrooms Tip 7: Mildew

Make an extra effort to keep on top of mildew so it doesn't take over your bathroom. Every six months spray your ceiling with a 50/50 solution of hydrogen peroxide and water (as it's a safe bleach it won't harm your lungs).
