FAQ

Bathroom Planning

1. Is there a fast and easy way to renovate my bathroom?

You can spruce up a tired looking bathroom without major renovation works by updating the fittings, and perhaps replacing your washbasin. Banish the clutter with a bigger storage unit or update your shower with a simple to fit shower totem. A full renovation is of course more involved, but Ideal Standard makes it easier with complementary products for every part of the bathroom that go together beautifully to transform your bathroom space.

2. Does Ideal Standard offer solutions for any bathroom?

Ideal Standard recommends a wide variety of products that will allow you to create your ideal bathroom regardless of its size. We offer several types of products of varying dimensions to help you create the perfect solution for your available space.

3. Is it possible to combine products that belong to different ranges?

Absolutely, yes. But remember to consider the importance of the design characteristics of each piece. In our brochures you will often find complementary products from other ranges.

4. What kind of support can I expect when planning my bathroom?

Many bathroom retailers offer a bathroom planning service supported by the latest design software from either 20/20 or Virtual Worlds. Both 20/20 and Virtual Worlds include Ideal Standard products. Why not try our online bathroom planner.

Maintenance

1. Ceramics – cleaning and caring DOs and DONT’s

Product Care - Ceramics - basins, toilets and shower trays

All products manufactured or supplied by Ideal Standard are designed to give many years of reliable service provided they are maintained and cared for. Our recommendations to keep them looking their best are as follows:

Dos

  • Do clean regularly after use to stop a build up of dirt and scale.
  • Do use warm soapy water, cream or liquid cleaner. But ensure cleaners are wiped clean with soapy water as metal surfaces will corrode if the metal is left with a film of or build up of bathroom cleaner, avoid the use of harsh bleach based products
  • Do fix dripping taps – as this can prevent stains and the build up of limescale.
  • Occasional use of mild bathroom limescale removers can help if used in accordance with manufacturers' instructions. Rinse well with plenty of water immediately after use.

Don'ts

  • Don’t put bleach in the cistern - this can damage the internal fittings. You can of course use it in the toilet bowl itself.
  • Don’t leave strong cleaners or bleach in the WC overnight.
  • Don’t mix different cleaners in the WC - they can react to give off poisonous gases.

2. Acrylic bathtubs and shower trays – cleaning and caring DOs and DON’Ts

Product Care - Acrylic baths or shower trays, plastic bath panels

All products manufactured or supplied by Ideal Standard are designed to give many years of reliable service provided they are maintained and cared for. Our recommendations to keep them looking their best are as follows:

Dos

  • Do clean regularly after use to stop a build up of dirt and scale.
  • Do use warm soapy water or Cif cream cleaner. Avoid covering metal with Cif cleaner.
  • Do fix dripping taps – as this can prevent stains and the build up of limescale.
  • Minor scratches and abrasions can be polished out with a mild polishing compound.

Don'ts

  • Don’t leave soap or shampoo pools – these can cause permanent stains.
  • Don’t leave cigarettes/flames near by.
  • Don’t use household or commercial cleaning chemicals - a range of products such as paint stripper, nail varnish remover, household bleach, perfume, aftershave or strong disinfectant can cause damage.
  • Don’t use any scouring products or cream cleaners other than Cif cream cleaner.
  • The use of aromatherapy oils in the bath should not affect the acrylic surface as the water heavily dilutes the oils, but leaving the oil container on the side of the bath can damage the surface if left in contact for long periods of time.

3. Shower Enclosures - What is Click and clean? What is Idealclean?

  • Click and Clean. The lower wheels and panels can be released to expose them for thorough cleaning. The Panel then easily clicks back into position to ensure a watertight seal.
  • Idealclean for glass that’s easier to clean and stays cleaner for longer, reducing cleaning time by up to 90%

4. Bathroom and kitchen fittings – product cleaning DOs and DON’Ts

Dos

  • Do clean regularly after use to stop a build up of dirt and scale.
  • Do clean with warm water with a few drops of washing up liquid, rinse well and dry with a soft dry cloth.
  • Occasional use of mild bathroom limescale removers can help if used in accordance with manufacturers' instructions. Rinse well with plenty of water immediately after use and then clean and dry as above.

Don'ts

  • Don’t use household chemicals – a range of products such as paint stripper, nail varnish remover, household bleach, perfume, aftershave or strong disinfectants can cause damage.
  • Don’t use cream cleaners or scouring products.
  • Don’t scratch the surface – scratches can be a source of corrosion.

5. Bathroom furniture – product cleaning DOs and DON’Ts

Dos

  • Do wipe down all bathroom furniture with a damp cloth and dry carefully.
  • Do wipe spilt liquids up immediately using a clean dry cloth.
  • Do take care when cleaning bathroom furniture with integrated lights or other electric parts, to avoid direct contact with water or moisture

Don'ts

  • Don’t use any solvents or abrasive substances when cleaning.

6. Shower enclosures – product cleaning DOs and DON’Ts

Dos

  • Do clean your shower door after every use, by wiping down all the glass and metal parts with a soft cloth and removing any residual water. This will help avoid limescale build up, especially in hard water areas. Built up limescale can be difficult to remove.

Don'ts

  • Don’t clean with gritty or abrasive products, as they will destroy the surface coating or protection.
  • Don’t use powder detergents. Liquid detergents may be used if they are free of alcoholic substances.
  • Don’t use products such as ammonia, acetone, and alcohol as they will permanently damage the shower enclosure. Care should be taken to avoid contact with strong chemicals such as organic solvents and strippers.

Product / Technical

1. What are the benefits of using a mixer tap?

Most Ideal Standard mixer taps include a factory fitted 5 litre per minute flow regulator that will reduce your water consumption by a significant percentage. Simply replacing your old tap with a new mixer tap will allow you to use significantly less water while delivering the water at just the right temperature for your needs.

2. How does your Trevi Boost work and what is the Venturi Principal?

Trevi Boost shower controls use a Venturi valve which enables high pressure cold mains water to pull through lower pressure hot water. The resulting mixed water for the shower comes out at a much greater rate than could be achieved using an electric shower or ordinary shower mixer.

The Venturi principle works because a faster moving fluid has a lower pressure than a slower moving one. It's this pressure difference that enables it to draw through hot water without using a pump. This same principle works over the top of aeroplane wings to generate lift.

Water Saving

1. What are the available solutions for reducing water and energy consumption?

Water is the most valuable resource on Earth. It is therefore crucial for us to learn how to manage our water requirements responsibly. Ideas to reduce your household water usage include:

  • Many Ideal Standard cisterns are equipped with a dual flush mechanism that allows for two different levels of flush, the full 4 or 6 litres as well as a smaller 2.6 or 4 litre flush.
  • Ideal Standard taps fitted with Click Technology mechanism reduce the water flow by 50% when the tap’s handle is in the halfway/click position. Water flow can of course be increased to the full if required. By choosing Ideal Standard taps with Click Technology mechanism, you have the ability to determine the maximum water temperature, for increased safety and further energy saving.
  • Installing a flow limiter on your basin, shower or kitchen tap will restrict the maximum flow of water to 5 or 8 l/min.
  • Ideal Standard thermostatic fittings allow you to quickly and safely customise your chosen water temperature and set a maximum safe limit of 40oC.
  • Replace your old showerhead with a new one from the Idealrain shower fitting range. These showerheads ensure a maximum flow of 8 l/min with their built-in flow limiter.
  • All Ideal Standard taps come with a flow limiter installed as standard.
